THE Montessori Pedagogy

Back to Montessori pedagogy
Promoting self-confidence, autonomy and allowing the child to evolve at their own pace, these are the promises of Montessori pedagogy, founded by Maria Montessori, the first female doctor in Italy, in 1907. According to this alternative pedagogy to the traditional education system, by providing children with suitable equipment in a favorable environment and by letting them choose the activities they wish to carry out, the child learns by himself, at his own pace, by doing exercises of self-discipline. The child is guided by an educator whose role is not to teach knowledge but to “know how to learn”. A century later, more than 20,000 Montessori schools have opened their doors around the world and have many followers.
The Montessori Kindergartens of Partage Tanzania
Opened in 1997, the 13 schools for 3-6 year olds welcome a total of 350 children each year, in the villages of the VICTORIA PROGRAMME. Schools are open to all children and education is free for orphaned children cared for by Partage Tanzania. For Jacqueline Krynen, head of the Montessori program at Partage Tanzania, “Montessori teaching is active non-violence, respectful of the human capital deposited in each person, promoting the full development of the person. The Montessori method is prohibitively expensive for teaching materials when they come from a factory, but they are essential. But its reproduction does not pose a problem. It only requires a small workshop equipped with basic machine tools and a meticulous carpenter guided by teachers well trained in object-concept relationships. That’s what sharing does. The Montessori Training Center of Partage Tanzania Building on its success with children and to compensate for the lack of teachers trained in Montessori pedagogy, Partage Tanzania created the Montessori Training Center in Bukoba in 2007, the only one in the Kagera region. Since then, 110 teachers have graduated there. Partage Tanzania has become a pioneer of Montessori learning in East Africa.
Renaida, 32 years old, former orphan sponsored by Partage Tanzania, now a Montessori teacher
An orphan, Renaida was supported by Partage from a very young age, and sponsored by a sponsor from France Parrainages for 10 years. After finishing high school, Renaida took vocational training in sewing. But her heart was elsewhere... Passionate about children, she wanted to work alongside them. It was with Partage Tanzania that she was able to discover and appreciate the Montessori method. Sensing his motivation and his attachment to the cause of the child, Partage Tanzania allowed him to join the training course for Montessori educators. After successfully completing her training, Renaida opened her Montessori preschool in 2013 on the outskirts of Bukoba. Simple but warm, its small kindergarten welcomes 39 students from the age of 3. The materials used by Renaida are homemade, from pieces of wood, fabrics and all kinds of local objects recovered. The €30/month tuition fees requested from parents allow them to rent the premises and pay a cook and help. Although Renaida had difficulty finding students at the beginning, she is now satisfied and says she is happy and fulfilled professionally.
